Just used this Caldwell Green, by Benjamin Moore, for an accent wall for a local business showroom and it is GORGEOUS!!

The other walls are Manchester Tan by Benjamin Moore. The trim is White by Benjamin Moore. Love the combination.

Mixing Patterns: Florals, Stripes, Plaids, Checks!

Mixing patterns, when done correctly, looks beautiful! Here are some tips to help you feel confident with displaying three or four different patterns in one room.

1.  Start by finding a favorite!
Find a floral or strip or plaid that you love and want to anchor your room's decor around.

2. General rule of thumb #1: choose a large sized pattern, a medium sized pattern, and a small sized pattern.  This allows for some balance in the room.

3. General rule of thumb #2: mix one of each - a floral, a stripe, a plaid, a check.

4. Remember that colors must blend and not fight eachother.  Two or more colors should be consistent throughout all of the chosen patterns. BUT do not feel like you have to match the colors perfectly!

5.  Make sure there is a place in the room for the eye to "rest"!  Mix in solids in the dominant color to creat a respite for the eye.

Happy Decorating!!

DIY Hallway Signs

One of my favorite BLOGS, mycottagecharm.com, has a GREAT tutorial on making hallway signs for your home.

I decided to test it out and make a "Bath" sign for our hallway.

It is SOOOO easy!

Supplies:

Bronze Plant hanger (found at Home Depot)
White Spray Paint
Bronze Spray Paint
Oval Unfinished Wood plaque (bought at Michael's)
Unfinished Wood letters (bought at Michael's)
Small Hook
Wood Glue

How to:

It is really just common sense :)  Spray paint the plaque white (or whatever color you choose) and the wood letters bronze.  I used two coats of spray paint.  You can sand the endges of the plaque for a distressed look if you would like.  Once dry, glue to the letters onto the plaque.  Screw in the hook at the top of the plaque.  Hang the plant hanger on your wall, and then attach the plaque.

NOTE:  When purchasing the plaque make sure it is not too big to hang nicely under the plant hanger.

Here are the pictures:
